Karakalpak-agro free economic zone (FEZ) has been created in accordance with the presidential decree on measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Karakalpakstan Republic in 2020–2023, Trend reports referring to Norma.uz information and legal portal.

It is reported that the FEZ is located on the area of 875.4 hectares. The FEZ will include Amu Darya, Buzatausky, Kegeili, Konlikul, Kushgirot, Muynak, Nukus, Takhiatash, Turtkul, Khodjeyli, Shumanai and Ellikala districts. The functions of managing the activities of the SEZ are entrusted to the directorate of the Nukus SEZ.

It is expected that the Karakalpak-agro FEZ will contribute to attracting direct foreign and domestic investment for the organization on a cluster basis of modern greenhouses, including hydroponic greenhouses.

Also, the FEZ will contribute to increasing agricultural production, expanding its deep processing and increasing exports, effectively using the production potential of the region, as well as encouraging the organization of the complete process of agricultural production from seeds to delivery to the market.

In addition, it is planned that effective mechanisms for providing greenhouses with seeds and seedlings of high-yielding crops demanded by the market, by creating conditions for organizing nurseries, as well as seed production will be introduced at Karakalpak-agro.

Karakalpak-agro will also form modern infrastructure for the provision of logistics services, assist agricultural producers in organizing the export of their products and introduce modern resource-saving technologies and alternative sources of thermal energy in the organization of greenhouses.
