Cement prices at Uzbek commodity exchange decline despite growth in demand

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25

Goods worth 1.8 billion soums ($170,191) were sold on all trading platforms of the Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange (UZEX) for the period from May 17 to 23, which is 50.8 percent less than last week, Trend reports referring to UZEX.

According to UZEX, the total volume of transactions involving small businesses and private entrepreneurship amounted to 658.8 billion soums ($62 million). As a result of electronic auctions for public procurement, the total savings of budgetary and corporate customers amounted to 28 billion soums ($2.5 million).

It is reported that during the reporting period commodity resources worth 1.626 billion soums ($153,739) were sold at open exchange auctions.

Last week the daily average price for all varieties of cottonseed oil was stable. In particular, 2,054 tons of cottonseed oil were sold through open exchange trading.

During the period under review, the starting cost of cottonseed oil decreased by an average of eight percent, from 14,704 soums ($1.3900) to 14,037 soums ($1.3270) per ton.

It is noted that during the week the average daily price for cottonseed oil on the exchange decreased, but on the last trading day, it practically did not change and amounted to 15,904 soums ($1.5) per ton.

A decrease in prices was recorded in the sugar market last week. During the past week, 15,520 tons of sugar were put up for sale, of which 14,720 tons, or 94.8 percent, were sold.

During the period under review, the daily average price for sugar of all categories decreased by 3.8 percent, from 7,720 soums ($0.73) to 7,423 soums ($0.7) per ton.

As a result of exchange trading, the weekly weighted average price for local sugar of the third category amounted to 7,574 soums ($0.72) per ton.

The exchange prices for cement have declined despite the growth in demand. During the past week, 278,070 tons of cement were put up for exchange trades, of which 236,160 tons, or 85.0 percent, were sold. The daily volume of cement sales averaged 47,200 tons.

During the period under review, the daily average price for cement of all categories increased from 593,200 soums ($56.09) to 569,400 soums ($53.84), or only by four percent.
