Uzbekistan eyes building copper-processing plant at mining and metallurgical complex

Uzbekistan plans to build a third copper-processing plant with a processing capacity of 60 million tons of copper-molybdenum ore at the Yoshlik-1 deposit of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, Trend reports referring to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex is a huge industrial complex in Uzbekistan that combines open and closed deposits, metallurgical and cement plants, and an extensive mining and processing infrastructure. The plant accounts for seven percent of industrial production and 15 percent of country's exports.

It is noted that as a result of the attention paid in recent years, new deposits have been discovered at the complex and production has increased.

In particular, the Yoshlik-1 field, for the development of which an investment project worth $4.9 billion is being implemented, launched in accordance with the decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated March 1, 2017.

It is reported that from the deposit with an area of ​​11,000 hectares, 65 million tons of ore will be mined per year. In addition, it is planned to build a third copper-processing plant with a processing capacity of 60 million tons of copper-molybdenum ore. Also, a lime plant, a 650-megawatt power system and other infrastructure facilities will also be erected.

It is noted that over the past four years, the project has carried out modern geological research and excavation of more than 83 million cubic meters of soil. More than 570 special vehicles were involved in the amount of $415 million.

The project is scheduled to launch in 2024 and create a total of 6,000 jobs.
