TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 26. Chinese Shaanxi Xiangsheng Industrial Group intends to invest $300 million in the construction of a 500 MW solar power plant in Uzbekistan’s Fergana region, Trend reports.
Presumably, the new photovoltaic power plant will be located next to a plant producing construction materials, co-founded by a Chinese company.
The Chinese company also plans to transform Lake Kirgili, now used as a fishing farm, into a recreation area equipped with modern tourist infrastructure as well as offering other tourist services.
Meanwhile, Shaanxi Xiangsheng Industrial Group has already invested more than $200 million in the development of the Fergana Region in recent years.
Renewable energy sources created in this region can replace traditional energy resources, helping to solve the problem of the energy supply of facilities in remote areas.
As per data provided by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy, 31.9 billion kWh of electricity was produced in Uzbekistan from January through May 2023, which is 1 billion kWh, or 3.3 percent more than in the same period last year.
Overall, 74.3 billion kWh of electricity were produced in Uzbekistan in 2022.
