Iran says Patriot missiles in Turkey prologue to world war

Iran warned Saturday that stationing Patriot missiles at the Turkish-Syrian border could be a prologue for a world war, dpa quoted ISNA news agency as reporting.

"With this plan, the West is preparing another world war, which would also be dangerous for Europe itself," ISNA quoted еру Chairman of Iranian Armed Forces Chiefs of Staff Hassan Firouzabadi as saying.

He said that the Patriot batteries would not improve security but only raise tensions, and he called on Turkey, the United States and Europe to drop the plans "before a fire breaks out that nobody could extinguish."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said last month that the Patriot missiles were not helpful and would only complicate the Syrian crisis.
