Iran's former minister of commerce Mohammad Shariat-madari said that he'll run for president as an independent candidate, Etemad News Daily reported.

Mohammad Shariat-madari said that reformists have not yet reached a consensus on nominating him as their presidential candidate.

But he believes that people already know him as a reformist.

Shariat-madari had previously criticized the incumbent government, saying the all-time high liquidity and spiraling inflation in Iran is because of the wrong policies of the current administration.

He said that if elected president, he'll strive to bring the economy back on track with the help of competent experts.

In September, the Iranian Interior ministry announced that the country will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
