China-Iran railway construction to be discussed in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek in late October will host a meeting on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran railway construction project, Iran's Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister, Iranian Railways CEO Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaie told Trend Oct. 9.

He said that at present, the railway construction project is under consideration by the five countries.

In particular, compliance of the railway construction with international standards is being discussed, the deputy minister said.

"There is an agreement reached between the four countries on this issue, and it is expected that one will be able to reach an agreement with Kyrgyzstan as well at the meeting," said Aghaie.

Regarding the financing of the project, he said that discussions on this issue are now underway with China.

Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan agreed on the need to construct a railway running through the territories of these countries in July 2012.

Iran expressed readiness to finance the Kyrgyz section of the railway.

The length of the railway linking China's Kashgar city with Afghanistan's Herat city will be 1,972 kilometers Tajikistan's Ministry of Transport and Communications said .

The length of the Tajik section of this railway, running from the Nizhny Panj to the border with Kyrgyzstan will be 296 kilometers.
