Baku, Azerbaijan, June 21

Iran seeks to export electricity to regional countries instead of gas, an Iranian gas official said.
Azizollah Ramazani, the National Iranian Gas Company’s manager for international affairs, said Iran is considering a plan for converting gas into electricity, Mehr news agency reported June 21.
He added that the electricity generated from gas can be exported to regional countries, which would be more beneficial than exporting gas itself.
According to the official, Iran is considering to export its gas either through pipelines, as LNG, or by converting gas into electricity.
Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and some other countries may join Iran in a possible project for creating a power grid in order to generate and export electricity.
