The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) have formed a joint transportation company, Mohammad Saeidi, managing director of IRISL, said.

The company is aimed at linking Central Asian countries with southern Iranian ports, Saeidi said, Tasnim news agency reported Sept. 23.

The company will help the Islamic Republic enjoy its transit capacities, he said, adding that the goods needed for CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) will be delivered through the Islamic Republic by intermodal transportation and IRISL will take part in the process.

The Central Asian countries also will use Iran’s territory and ports to transit their exports to free waters, Saeidi added.

The central office of the joint company is located in Iran’s Anzali Port in Caspian Sea, he said, adding that other branches will be opened in Aktau Port of Kazakhstan and Bandar Abbas Port of Iran in the near future.
