TEHRAN, Iran, April 1. Iranian Government expressed hope to purchase around 5.5 million tons of wheat from Iranian farmers at guaranteed prices by the end of the current Iranian year (ends on March 21, 2023), Trend reports citing Mehr.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Alireza Mohajer forecasted the production of 9 million tons of wheat in the current Iranian year.
“Over 4.5 million tons of wheat have been purchased from Iranian farmers at guaranteed prices in last year. while about 1.5 million tons of wheat have been stored by the farmers for next year,” said Mohajer.
The government is raising its target for purchases of local wheat to as much as 5.5 million tons, depending on the rain height in April.
Iran has increased its price for purchasing wheat from local farmers to 115,000 rials ( $2.7 per kg) for the new harvesting season that will begin in June.
