Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-May 2010)

Consumer market

In January-May 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 8.7%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised AZN 6815.1mln. In particular, 72.3% of growth accounted for retail trade, 27.7% - paid services.

In January-May 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 5172.7 million manat, which is 8.1% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.1% of turnover, fairs and markets - 41.7%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.5%.

In January-May 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 152.9 manat that is 10.1 percent higher than 2009. 

In January-May 2010 commercial services to population made up 1642.4 million manat, or up 10.4 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 71.8% of services, legal entities - 28.2%, with growth of 10.6% and 10.2% respectively.

Prices

In January-May, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services declined 0.2 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-May 2009 grew by 4.7 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in May rose 0.3 percent compared to April, non-food products increased by 0.2 percent, and tariffs for service declined 0.1%. 

Compared with January-May 2009, food prices grew by 4.1 percent, non-food products - 1.7 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 8.2 percent.

In May 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government made up 99.8% as compared to the previous month, and 102.2% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in May 2010 the index of industrial goods price decreased 1.7%, but rose 62.4% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production decreased 2.8 percent in May compared to previous month, but rose 84.9 percent in January-May compared to the same period of 2009.

The prices in refining chemical products increased 1.7% in the month and growth totaled 8.1% at annualized pace.

In May, the prices in metallurgy increased 0.2 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 17.7% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
