Heart of Asia beats in Baku
Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 1
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
Today, it is quite obvious that Azerbaijan has become a country playing an important role in the region.
The international conferences are often held in Azerbaijan. Taking this into account, one can say that the decision of holding the "Ministerial Conference within the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process" in Baku is not unexpected.
Representatives of the "Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process" countries and organizations, namely, president and foreign minister of Afghanistan, foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, minister of state for external affairs of India, deputy foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, special representatives of Russia and China on Afghanistan, delegations of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as well as special representative of the UN secretary general for Afghanistan and Central Asia are participating in the conference.
In total, more than 250 delegates are taking part in the event.
Unfortunately, Afghanistan is one of the countries of the Islamic world, which has been facing not only internal conflicts, but also international terrorism for many years.
Actually, Afghanistan is noticeably lagging in social and economic development and could not take a proper place among a number of countries in the region due to activity of terrorist organizations, numerous internal conflicts and a number of superpowers’ interests.
Instead of fighting against growing radicalism in their countries and getting rid of religious extremists, some Arab countries created conditions for radicals to leave for Afghanistan. Hundreds of facts testify to that.
While some countries supported participants in the civil conflict, using military confrontation in Afghanistan solely for their own purposes, such countries as Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran have always stood for peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Afghanistan's President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s statement testifies to Azerbaijan’s positive activity and constructive position in resolving the Afghan problem.
“Azerbaijan's brave soldiers greatly contributed to peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan,” President Ghani said at the 7th Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference in Baku Dec. 1.
The vast experience and potential allows Azerbaijan to act not only as a peacekeeper in Afghanistan, but also participate in the creation of the necessary infrastructure in this country. Of course, first of all, it is necessary to ensure stability in Afghanistan.
