Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations in the Spanish Parliament Josep Antonio Duran has urged Georgian citizens to take an active part in the elections and not to pay attention to the military exercises planned by Russia, Spanish MP said after a meeting with Georgian colleagues Akaki Minashvili and David Darchiashvili in the
Georgian Parliament.

"I know that parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia in October," Duran said. "I also have the information that Russia plans to conduct military exercises in autumn. Therefore, I urge the Georgian citizens not to yield to provocations and not to refrain from
participating in elections if Russia takes any steps. Take part in the elections and democratically express your will. Do not pay attention to the Russian military exercises if they coincide with the elections."

He called Georgia as a leader in the region upon the conducted political, economic and social reforms.

"All this contributes to the process of integration into European and Euro-Atlantic organizations," he said. "The reforms are the factors promoting the integration. I support them. We appreciate your interest in European and Western family. We hope the fact that Georgia fulfills its commitments very well will be acknowledged at the NATO summit in
Chicago. This will become the basis for its full membership in the alliance in the future.

Regarding the integration into the EU, Georgia, of course, is part of Christian and European world. Perhaps not so soon, but I hope we all will celebrate the day when Georgia will join the EU."
