Georgian cargo turnover increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 13

Cargo turnover through Georgia from January through August 2021 increased to 27.4 million tons, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The increase is mainly due to land transportation. Road shipments increased to 19.4 million (+0.3 million) tons. The volume of freight transported by rail reached 8 million tons (+0.7 million).

The movement of containers from China to Georgia has increased by 260 percent.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which operates in a test mode, plays an important role in rail transportation. The number of containers transported on this section of the railway shows an increase of 56.4 percent over the first 8 months of 2021.

Recently, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey signed a joint protocol on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway for efficient cooperation and simplification of cargo transportation procedures.
