Georgia's gov't in talks with local fuel importers regarding switching to Euro-5 diesel

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 22

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

According to the Government’s decision, Georgia may start importing the Euro-5 diesel fuel in 2023, Vano Mtvralashvili, the Chairman of the Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia, said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to Mtvralashvili, this regulation has already been postponed several times, as the matter is still under discussion with the fuel-importing companies.

The fact Azerbaijan is the main supplier of diesel fuel to Georgia has been the main reason for the postponement, he noted.

"Azerbaijani fuel is suitable to Georgia, both in price and quality. The price for it is 20-25 tetri (6-8 cents) cheaper than European fuel,” the chairman noted.

Regarding the Government's decision, the chairman noted that this issue is not on the agenda yet, and the specified decision will most likely be made in the second half of the year.
