A Palestinian militant was killed and another wounded early Wednesday in what Palestinian security sources said an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza Strip, Xinhua reported.
The two militants were riding a motorbike when an unmanned drone fired a missile at them, wounding the two seriously. Khaled Muamar, 24, died shortly after arriving at the hospital in Rafah city, doctors said.
The Islamic Jihad group said the slain was a member of its armed wing.It is the second time that Israel attacks militants from the Islamic Jihad since Gaza armed groups on Saturday announced re- commitment to a fragile ceasefire that has held for more than two years.
A week of violence, in which militants fired rockets into Israel in response to strikes that killed more than 10 Palestinians, increased fears of a large-scale Israeli military operation in Gaza.
A Hamas official told Xinhua on Monday that Turkey mediated between Israel and Hamas to calm down the situation.Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli warplanes hit a smuggling tunnel on Gaza-Egypt borders, witnesses said.
