At least five people died Saturday when Israeli forces launched an airstrike against an Islamist militant training camp in the Gaza Strip, reported medical officials.
Another three were wounded in the attack on the al-Quds Brigades base in the southern part of the Strip, said a spokesman for emergency medical services, dpa reported.
The Brigades are the armed branch of the radical Islamist movement Islamic Jihad.
An Israeli Army spokeswoman confirmed that a terrorist base in the southern Gaza Strip had been struck. She said launch devices for Grad missiles had been destroyed. Israel has accused the Brigades of firing a similar missile into its territory on Wednesday.
The missile fired Wednesday traveled further than other missiles made in the strip and carried a larger payload than the homemade projectiles. The missile, which landed near the port of Ashdod, caused no injuries.
Militant Palestinians routinely fire missiles into Israel. The attacks often do no harm, but Israeli officials worry the militant groups might eventually have access more precise, destructive missiles.
