Iraq car bombings kill seven

At least seven people were killed Wednesday in two separate car bombings in Iraq, apparently targeting Kurds, local media reported, quoting security officials, dpa reported.

Five civilians were killed and 90 injured when a car bomb exploded in the northern city of Kirkuk in an area housing Kurdish non-governmental organizations, reported the Iraqi website Alsumaia News.

The second bombing took place outside offices belonging to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party and a Kurdish security unit in the city of Salah Eddin, 170 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad, said the officials.

The blast left two people dead and 26 injured, they added.

The attacks came a day after a suicide bomber killed a lawmaker from Iraq's Sunni Muslim minority in the western city of Falluja.

Near-daily attacks have occurred in Iraq since US troops left the country in December 2011, raising fears of a return to the sectarian tensions that drove Iraq close to civil war in 2006 and 2007.
