Decisions on the weapon supplies to the Syrian opposition will only destabilize the situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following the meeting of the G8 leaders in the British town of Lough Erne, RIA Novosti reported.
"During the discussion of pressing international issues, of course, a special attention was paid to Syria. We called our G8 partners to focus efforts to convene an international conference in Geneva, the so-called Geneva-2, and to end the bloodshed in the country. We agreed that this can only be achieved through political means. In our view, any decisions on weapon supplies to the opposition based on unsubstantiated allegations of Damascus of using chemical weapons will only further destabilize the situation," Putin said.
