Former Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who arrived in China on Saturday, gave advice to the striker Sergio Aguero ahead of the quarter-final game pitting defending champions Argentina against the Netherlands in the Beijing Olympics, dpa reported.
Aguero - the boyfriend of Maradona's younger daughter Giannina, who is reportedly expecting his baby - said the legendary player gave him tips to tackle the match that Argentina finally won 2-1 to set up a semi-final tie with arch-rival Brazil.
"Maradona told me how I should play that game. He advised me, among other things, not to play very long passes. I am going to meet with him later, to talk about Brazil," Aguero said.
The Atletico Madrid striker was not the only player to get encouragement from Maradona.
"He motivated all of us," Aguero said.
