Three people were injured and two hotels collapsed when the earthquakes hit eastern Indonesia's West Papua province on Sunday morning, said Satrio Nurhat, an official from the Indonesian National Disaster Management Center.
Nurhat said that some local residential buildings and two banks were also damaged in the quakes, adding casualties and material damage were still increasing, reported Xinhua .
A 7.2-magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Indonesia' West Papua province at 4:43 a.m.local time on Sunday (1943 GMT Saturday), followed by aftershocks measuring 5.1, 6.1, 5.1 and 7.6 degrees on the Richter scale, respectively.
The strongest 7.6-magnitude aftershock struck at 7.33 a.m. local time (2233 GMT on Saturday), with its epicenter at 0.88 degrees southern latitude, 133.38 degrees eastern longitude, and a depth of 10 km below the sea level.
