EU Council to mull cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries

The Justice and Home Affairs Council will mull cooperation with countries of the Eastern Partnership in Luxembourg on Oct. 27-28.

Combating synthetic drugs and cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries will be on the Council agenda, ENPI Info Center reported with reference to the EU's Polish Presidency.

The Council will familiarize itself with a Commission communication regarding justice and home affairs cooperation with countries of the Eastern Partnership.

It is designed to upgrade current cooperation with the EaP countries. The presentation of the communication marks the first stage of the Council's work on the issue, with the goal of defining future areas of cooperation with EaP countries in this sphere.

The Eastern Partnership program, initiated by Poland and Sweden in 2008, seeks to bring the six post-Soviet countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine closer to the democratic and economic workings of the EU.
