A suicide car bomber blew himself up on Monday at the gate of a university in southern Afghanistan, killing seven people and injuring 23, an official said, dpa reported.
"The incident took place at the gate of the Kandahar University in which seven civilians were killed and 23 others were injured," said Javed Faisal, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
The university is in Kandahar city, the capital of a province with the same name where Taliban insurgents have been blamed for a spike in violence.
Faisal said it was not yet clear if university students were among the victims.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
