Turkish President, FM to attend UN meetings

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan arrived in New York on Friday to attend the 63rd term high-level meetings of UN General Assembly, reported Worldbulletin.

Babacan as well as Turkish President Abdullah Gul --who is expected to arrive in New York on Saturday-- will represent Turkey in UN General Assembly meetings which will be participated by heads of state & government of 192 UN member countries.

Gul and Babacan will also hold bilateral and multilateral meetings in New York between September 22nd and 26th.

The General Assembly meetings are important this year as Turkey is candidate for non-permanent membership for 2009-2010 UN Security Council.

Security Council elections are expected to take place in mid October.
