Turkish police confiscated 253 kg of hashish in an operation in northwestern Turkey on Tuesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Acting on a tip-off, the Turkish police stopped a car in the province of Kocaeli on its way to the Turkish largest city of Istanbul from the southeastern province of Diyarbakir and detained two suspected people travelling in the car, according to the report.
After interrogating the two people, the Turkish police teams raided a storehouse in Kocaeli and found the illicit drug and also detained another person in the operation, said the report.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe, Xinhua reported.
