Regional security issues were discussed during the visit of Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz to Iraq, the Turkish news agency Anadolu said March 4.

During the visit, Yilmaz met with his Iraqi counterpart Khaled al-Obeidi.

During the visit, Turkish defense minister of Iraq discussed the fight against the terrorist organization "Islamic State."

On March 3, two C-130 cargo aircraft of Turkish Air Force with military assistance to Iraq landed at the airport of Al-Muthana, 20 kilometers east of Baghdad.

Military cargo was shipped to Iraq within the framework of the fight against the ISIS.

The "Islamic State" (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) penetrated Syria's territory in 2013. The organization said at the time it refuses to take the oath of Al-Qaeda and declared "a holy war" against all groups and government forces of Syria.

Strengthening of the IS in Syria allowed it to return to Iraq, deploying military actions against government forces there.

In late June of 2014, the IS announced about the creation of the 'Islamic Caliphate' on the territories under its control in Iraq and Syria. In turn, Iraqi authorities asked the international community for help in fighting the IS.
