Istanbul - top car-heavy Turkish city in February

Istanbul had the biggest share of cars driven in Turkey, among all of the country's cities in February 2020, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

During the reporting period the percentage of cars used in Istanbul amounted to 33.2 percent of the total number of cars driven in Turkey.

“This indicator amounted to 8.9 percent in Ankara, 5.8 percent in Izmir and 4.8 percent in Antalya,” TUIC said.

According to the report, the remaining 47.3 percent accounted for other cities.

In February 2020, the number of vehicles used in Turkey increased by 56.2 percent compared to February 2019, amounting to 53,135 cars.

In particular, the share of cars in the total number of vehicles in Turkey amounted to 60.3 percent, vans and trucks – 13.9 percent, motorcycles – 15.2 percent, tractors – 5.9 percent, while 4.7 percent accounted for other vehicles.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Ford, Fiat, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are assembled in Turkey. Turkey also manufactures local brands of buses such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
