Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Sept. 23

By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Construction of a gas compressor station in Mary province of Turkmenistan has started, the message of the “Oil and Gas Complex” of Turkmenistan said Sept. 23.

The gas compressor station is being built for the East-West internal pipeline launched in December 2015, and its potential is designed for export deliveries in the western direction as well.

In total, seven gas compressor stations will be built along the main pipeline: the Dresser-Rand S.A. company, with which the Turkmen state concern Turkmengaz concluded the corresponding contract, will supply basic equipment for the stations.

The message also said that the formation of such infrastructure will create a powerful base for the export of Turkmen energy resources to international markets in the Caspian region, which has strategic importance.

The largest Galkynysh and Dovletabat gas fields in the Mary region of Turkmenistan became the raw material base for gas supplies through the East-West pipeline.

The East-West pipeline can be used for the supply of Turkmen gas to Europe via both the traditional route through Russia and through the Caspian Sea.

Experts believe that laying a 300-km pipeline, the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline, through the Caspian Sea to the coast of Azerbaijan might be the new optimal route, thus ensuring the transit of Turkmen gas to Turkey and further to European markets.

A single gas system is also needed to ensure the stable operation of the existing industrial enterprises in the regions through which the main pipeline runs.
