Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that declaration of general amnesty in Syria was a positive development and it was necessary for fulfillment of political reforms, Xinhua reported.

In an interview with Turkish private TGRT channel, Davutoglu said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's decision for general amnesty was positive, and boosting confidence of Syrian people.

Turkey attached a great importance to stability and tranquility of Syria, he said, adding that Turkey aimed to help regional countries reach a more stable structure.

"I hope that it (Syria's decision on general amnesty) is the first step of a comprehensive reform," the minister added.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday issued an amnesty covering all crimes committed before May 31, including all those by the banned Muslim Brotherhood, according to the state-run SANA news agency.

The pardon also commutes sentences from some common crimes committed before May 31 to half the jail term.
