Restoration of stability and order in Iran is too important for Azerbaijan, as this is a neighbor country, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told journalists on June 23, when commenting on the unrest in Iran after the June 12 presidential elections.
"We urge for the rapid restoration of stability in Iran, because this is too important for us," Mammadyarov said.
The Saturday clash with the police in Tehran claimed lives of 19 people, CNN reported with the reference to sources in hospitals
Thousands of people unhappy with results of the June 12 presidential elections in Iran launched protest actions which led to clash with the police. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the presidential elections by 63.6 percent of votes.
According to unconfirmed reports, the street clashes killed 150 people.
