Number of phishing attacks reduced in Azerbaijan

In January-May 2014 the number of phishing incidents in AzNET's segment dropped by 10.13 percent, according to Netcraft analytical company's report.

In early 2014 one phishing attack productive for scammers accounted for 896 sites in the .az domain in Azerbaijan, in early June this figure was reduced to 781, according to the report.

As compared to the same period of 2013, the number of phishing attacks in AzNET's segment decreased by 64 percent.

The analysis is based on the Netcraft Toolbar program, which is a plug-in for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. The program notifies users of a potentially dangerous Internet resources and prevention of a phishing attack.

Netcraft Toolbar is currently installed on 3,909 personal computers in Azerbaijan.

Phishing attacks are carried out through mass e-mails under the names of popular brands.

The letter often contains a direct link to the brand's false website, visually not different from the original one. Once on that site, a user can report valuable information to scammers creating access to his accounts and bank accounts.
