Prospective spheres for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt will be viewed at the upcoming meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
The fifth meeting of the commission is scheduled for July, a diplomatic source told Trend June 29. The previous meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in Cairo in November 2016.
The meeting’s agenda will include the implementation process of previously achieved agreements between the two countries, studying the new prospects for cooperation of businessmen, as well as the renewal and expansion of the contractual and legal basis between the two countries.
Energy, tourism, agriculture, medicine and pharmaceutics, where Egypt has vast experience, are the main spheres of bilateral cooperation.
Azerbaijan also intends to intensify efforts on promotion of the Made in Azerbaijan brand in Egypt, as well as expand the access opportunities of the Egyptian business into the Azerbaijani market.
Pharmaceutics is also the most important area of cooperation between the two countries.
Today Azerbaijan imports more than 30 types of pharmaceutical products from Egypt. Azerbaijan also exports oil and oil products, chemical products to Egypt.
According to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, the country’s trade turnover with Egypt amounted to $3.5 million in January-May 2017 that is by $1 million or 40 percent more than in the same period of 2016.
