The delegations of Azerbaijan and Russia, who arrived in Astrakhan to attend the inter-regional forum, have attended the opening of the Heydar Aliyev Park. Last year, a monument was established to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev here.
The opening ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov, the Astrakhan governor Alexander Zhilkin, head of the Russian President's Department for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Sergei Vinokurov and mayor of Astrakhan Sergey Bozhenov, Trend's special correspondent reports.
Following the opening of the park, the high-ranking guests laid a commemorative capsule to the main bridge of friendship between Russia and Azerbaijan, which will connect the banks of the city canal.
At the ceremony of laying the capsule, Hasanov said that "presently the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has begun to work on the reconstruction of the secondary school # 11 in Astrakhan, and will provide assistance to this school after reconstruction".
The second Russian-Azerbaijani Interregional Forum "Russia - Azerbaijan: towards new horizons of interregional cooperation" kicked off in Astrakhan Thursday. The event was organized by the Development Fund of Eurasian Studies Institute, with the support from the presidential administrations of Russia and Azerbaijan.
The forum is attended by representatives of central and regional authorities, business circles and non-governmental organizations of both countries.
Azerbaijan is represented at the forum by a delegation headed by Hasanov. The delegation also includes representatives of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, government, MPs, heads of executive powers of several regions of the country, entrepreneurs.
The forum was opened with congratulation messages from Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
