American university hosts discussion on South Caucasus conflicts

A conference devoted to the conflicts in South Caucasus region and the ways of their solution was held at the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Azerbaijani Embassy to the U.S. reported.

The conference was held on the initiative of and with support from the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) under the President of Azerbaijan and was organized jointly by the Center for New Institutional Social Sciences at Washington University, the Program for International and Regional Studies and the Center for Eurasian Studies.

The moderator of the conference was Professor James Wertsch. The event was addressed by the CSS researcher Rauf Garagezov, a professor with humanities faculty of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Nino Chikovani and the Chairman of the Yerevan-based Analytical Centre on Globalisation and Regional Cooperation, Stepan Grigoryan. Azerbaijani Ambassador Elin Suleymanov also attended the conference.

Conference participants noted the importance of addressing the conflicts that exist in the South Caucasus, particularly the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh to ensure the future development of the region and its integration into the global system.
