Another 23 Syrian officers joined the opposition and moved to Turkey together with their families, the Turkish Yeni Safak newspaper reported.

There are colonels, lieutenant colonels, captains and lieutenants of the Syrian army among these people. Military personnel together with their families whose total number is 69 were placed in camps for Syrian refugees in the Hatay Province.

Today the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey, who escaped the unrest in the country, is more than 120,000. A total of 10 tented camps for Syrian refugees have been operating in the cities of Hatay, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for a year and half.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 30,000.
Over 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
