ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 7. The volume of production of unrefined sunflower oil in Kazakhstan amounted to 136,500 tons from January through March 2024, Trend reports.
According to data from the country's Bureau of National Statistics, compared to the same period in 2023 (103,900 tons), the volume of production increased by 31.4 percent.
The share of locally produced sunflower oil is 83.7 percent, while 16.3 percent of products are imported.
Kazakhstan also exports sunflower oil. Thus, the main share of sunflower oil (including safflower and cottonseed oil) exported last year was to Uzbekistan, China, and Tajikistan.
At the same time, the country's average price per liter of sunflower oil is 651 tenge (about $1.48). By region, the lowest price tag for sunflower oil is in Shymkent: 529 tenge (about $1.2) per liter; the highest price is in Zhezkazgan city, the average selling price is 865 tenge (about $1.97) per liter.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan exported 364,400 tons of sunflower oil, which is 1.6 times higher than in 2022. In terms of value, the volume of exports last year was $321.1 million. The main importers were Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and China. The share of unrefined oil accounted for 316,200 tons (87 percent of all supplies), while refined oil accounted for 48,200 tons (13 percent).
