BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 24. Thanks to Azerbaijan's chairmanship in 2023, SPECA gets an additional impetus for development, said Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tatiana Molchan at the summit of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in Baku, Trend reports.

"Thanks to Azerbaijan's chairmanship in 2023, SPECA is gaining new impulse. This is demonstrated by the recently adopted consensus resolution of the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of SPECA," she said.

Molchan noted that the SPECA region as a whole demonstrates a steady dynamic in economic development. Its share in global production has almost doubled since the establishment of the organization.

The UNECE Secretary also mentioned the importance of adopting a roadmap for the digitalization of the Middle Corridor.

The UN SPECA program was established on March 26, 1998. At present, the SPECA member states are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. SPECA provides a platform for sub-regional cooperation to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that can best be achieved through regional cooperation.

Baku is hosting the SPECA from November 20 to 24, 2023.
