Leona Lewis sets British record for the fastest-selling debut album

(showbizspy.com) - British singing sensation & 2006 'X Factor' winner Leona Lewis has bagged herself another record - for the fastest-selling debut album with her new record 'Spirit.'

Leona's 'Sprit' managed to shift more than 375,000 copies in seven days, a huge 12,000 more than the Arctic Monkeys' 2006 debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

According to reports from the BBC, Spirit is now the fourth fastest-selling album of all time, beneath Be Here Now, Coldplay's X& Y, and Dido's Life For Rent.

Last December, Leona's debut single, "A Moment Like This", smashed records when it was downloaded 50,000 times in the first half hour of release and sold 600,000 copies in its first week.

Last week, Leona's latest single "Bleeding Love" became the year's biggest-selling song and still holds the number one spot, its fourth week at the top of the charts.

A spokesman for Britain's Official UK Charts Company, today confirmed: "Leona has secured her place in chart history in terms of debut albums."

In a week of new entries in the album chart, the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits compilation made its debut at number two, while Led Zeppelin collection Mothership entered at number four.

However, brit rockers Oasis still have the overall record for the fastest selling British album, selling a whopping 813,000 copies in 1997 alone.

The UK's top ten albums are as follows:

1. Leona Lewis - Spirt2. Spice Girls - Greatest Hits3. Westlife - Back Home4. Led Zeppelin - Mothership5. Celine Dion - Taking Chances6. Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden7. Killers - Sawdust8. Andrea Bocelli - Vivere The Best of9. Take That - Beautiful World10. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
