Former Investigator Sentenced to Five Years of Imprisonment in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 June / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Mahir Nagiyev, former investigator of the Investigation Department at the Prosecutor Office, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Under the court decision, Nagiyev cannot work in Prosecutor Office departments within a year. The lawyer Vugar Khasayev, stated that he would appeal a decision in the Appeal Court.

Nagiyev has been accused with bribery taking and abuse of power. On 30 October 2007, Nagiyev was sentenced to three months of imprisonment by the decision of the Nasimi District Court.

Nagiyev was deprived of his rank and dismissed from the Prosecutor Office by the order of the Attorney-General on 2 June.

The investigation held by the Anti Corruption Department of Prosecutor Office, disclosed that Nagiyev took a bribe from Baba Mahmudzade and Etiram Ahmadov. Mahmudzade and Ahmadov gave to Nagiyev 0.12 hectare of land plots in the Ganli gol area in the Yasamal District of Baku that was registered under Anatoliy Sinitsin, husband of Nataliya Sinitsova.
