Heavy snowfall paralyzes life in Azerbaijan’s north

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 20 / Trend , A.Gafarov/ Khachmaz region is paralyzed by heavy snowfall in the northern region of Azerbaijan. A heavy snowfall began in the territory of Khachmaz region on Saturday morning. The height of the snow cover has already reached 10 cm. A few days ago amount of gas supplied to the area was reduced from 380,000 cu m per day to 260,000 cu m. Head of the Khachmaz Gas Economy Azad Yagubov told Trend that a request was sent to Azerigaz to increase gas supplies due to the frost. Electricity demand increased in Khachmaz because of reduced gas supply to the area. As a result, some transformers went out of service, leaving many residential areas without current. Head of the Khachmaz Electricity Supply Network Mustafa Rasulov said that the problems are being eliminated.   According to the Guba Meteorological Centre, most rain fell in the village of Griz in the Guba region. Traffic on the roads leading to villages in Guba and Gusar regions is limited. The height of snow here reaches 16 cm and the temperature set at -17 ?. Heavy snowfall is still going on. Guba is 160 km and Khachmaz is 151 km north of Baku.
