Mauritius confirms two death cases of A/H1NI flu

Two new death cases of A/H1NI flu have been reported in the Mauritius Island, according to the country's Health Ministry on Thursday morning, Xinhua reported.
The two cases brought to seven the official number of those dead in the country with over 35,000 infected persons.
After several days of silence, the Health Ministry announced the figures on the realization of an evolution of the flu pandemic in the country. It came after the continued cry privately by the public that the deaths should be acknowledged since the ministry had systematically denied the increase in the number of deaths.
However, 24 hours after the deaths, the government decided to make the numbers public.
The authorities estimated that the number of the infected could be more than 35,000 in Mauritius.
According to the ministry, the majority of those who have contracted the flu have been healed after getting medical care in more public hospitals than private hospitals.
Nevertheless, the ministry conceded that there could be some people with mild symptoms of the flu who have not bothered to see a doctor.  It said that they will reveal more numbers at the end of the week.
Within the region, the Reunion Island, 350 km off the coast of Mauritius, has registered their first suspected death related to the flu.
Two cases were registered but the victims "had suffered other heavy pathological diseases," stressed the head of the island in a communique.
He said one of the case was a woman of 90 years old who was treated for flu-like syndrome and died on Aug.20 at home.
A seasonal flu kills averagely ten people annually on the island which has about 800,000 inhabitants.
According to the estimates by the interregional epidemiological cell, the propagation of the virus accelerated during the schools' reopening weeks on this Indian Ocean island.
On Tuesday,7,900 absentees were noted in various schools on the island, where 220,000 children go to school, but none of the schools was closed down. The number of consultations for the flu- like syndrome has sharply increased on the island.
French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot will be visiting Reunion on Friday and Saturday.
