Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 28 / Trend , U.Sadikhova/
Azerbaijan is a diverse society with a rich history, and its people are proud of their heritage and identity, the U.S. President Barack Obama's Counselor on Muslims, Dalia Mogahed told Trend .
Regarding the use of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan as a formula in the relations between the West and the East, Mogahed believes that as powerful of a model as this is, I believe no one solution will work for everyone.
"Each society will have to shape its solutions to its unique character," said Mogahed, Head of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, and Member of the Advisory Council on Faith -Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
Azerbaijan marks the International Day of Religious Tolerance since 1999. Besides Muslims, who comprise 96 percent of the population, Christians and Jews live in the country, as well. Azerbaijan adopted the Law on "Religion", which includes tolerance toward other religious faiths.
Accoriding to the reports of international organizations and experts, religious tolerance in Azerbaijan is an example for many countries with different religious faiths.
In 2009, Baku was elected as the capital of the Islamic culture for the contribution made by Azerbaijan in promoting religious tolerance in the world
