"Milli Media" prize will be established in the run up to the 135th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press and it will be presented to the country's leading journalists, Azerbaijani Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said.

"The Azerbaijani Press Council has prepared a package of proposals related to the 135th anniversary of the national press, including the establishment of the "Milli Media" award. The principles of selection of persons to be awarded the prize will be announced in the coming days," Amashov said.

Azerbaijan marks the National Press Day July. The first printed edition of the Azerbaijani national press was released July 22, 1875 by Hasan Bey Zardabi. The Akinchi newspaper was published twice per month with a circulation of 300-400 newspapers until Sept. 29, 1877.

The events to mark the 135th anniversary of the national press will start in the Zardab region, he said.

The Press Council with the Azerbaijani Presidential State Media Support Fund will several hold activities to celebrate the anniversary of the national press in the regions, Amashov added.

"The closing event will be held in Baku with participation of numerous guests," Amashov said.
