Azerbaijani Permanent Representative to the U.N. Agshin Mehdiyev joined the advisory council of the War and Peace International Festival, Itar-Tass reported. The festival will hold a contest for the best website dedicated to promoting peace throughout the world.

"Unfortunately, more and more websites dedicated to war appear on the Internet, but we want to support the voice of peace in this unregulated space," Russian-American Cultural Foundation head and festival organizer Marina Kovaleva said during a presentation in New York.

Her organization also runs the Our Heritage festival.

During the presentation, guests also discussed holding a contest for the best video game dedicated to promoting peace given the onslaught or war-based games in recent years.

The event will be held annually for 10 days to celebrate International Day of Peace on Sept. 21, which was established by the U.N. General Assembly in 1981.

The festival's advisory council includes well-known figures, including ambassadors to the U.N. from Azerbaijan (Agshin Mehdiyev), Kazakhstan (Byrganym Aitimova), Turkmenistan (Aksoltan Atayeva) and Ukraine (Yuriy Sergeyev), as well as U.S. National Arts Club President Aldon James, and political scientist Andranik Migranyan.

Well-known international television producer Georges Leclere is a co-organizer of the festival.
