The number of individuals infected with AIDS through sexual contact has increased in Iran.
"According to the latest statistics of the Iranian Health Ministry, roughly 23,125 people became AIDS infected in Iran till June 22, 2011. This figure hit 22,727 in March 21, 2011," a message said.
According to the statistics, roughly 69.8 percent were infected through drug use, 1.1 percent through blood transfusion, 0.8 percent of babies through their mothers, 10 percent - through sexual contact, 18.3 percent through uncertain reasons till June 22, 2011.
People aged 25-34 are mainly infected.
The Iranian Committee to Combat AIDS warned about the increasing number of HIV infections through sexual contact. According to the committee, there are 83,000-120,000 HIV-infected. Roughly 24,000 HIV-infected were revealed. Roughly 4,311 infected people died in Iran till June 2011.
