Every time Azerbaijan carries out any major international event, the campaign of discrediting the country is intensified as if some forces perceive these activities as another chance, Azerbaijani MP Malahat Ibrahimqizi told Trend.

She was commenting on a campaign conducted by a number of international organizations to discredit Azerbaijan on the eve of the first European Games.

She said that Azerbaijan has become accustomed to such campaigns.

"We have seen such campaigns during the Eurovision song contest in Azerbaijan," she said.

"On the one hand, Azerbaijan has become a venue for cultural contest of Europe, showed its hospitality. On the other hand, a biased approach was demonstrated towards Azerbaijan. However, despite this, Azerbaijan held this event at the highest level."

She said that despite the world crisis, Azerbaijan is developed. The country is implementing big international projects.

"Of course, pro-Armenian forces, which do not want to see Azerbaijan's development, carry out such campaigns to vilify the country," she said. "These forces are trying to put pressure on the country every time on the eve of a major event in Azerbaijan."

She said that such campaigns and pressure are futile.

"I think that we should not pay attention to the pressure, dirty campaigns," she said. "We must continue our policy. As always, Azerbaijan will also hold the first European Games at a high level."

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
