Azerbaijani Anti-Torture Committee Chairman Meets with Editor-in-Chief of Newspapers Gundalik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Elchin Behbudov, the chairman of Azerbaijani Anti-Torture Committee, met with the editor-in-chief of the newspapers Gundalik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan, Eynulla Fatullayev, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months by Yasamal District Court and is currently being held in Bayil Investigation Cell 1. Behbudov noted on 23 April that Fatullayev had not complained on his living conditions and treatment. The editor considers the sentence to be biased.

Fatullayev was charged by Tatiana Chaladzeh, the director of the Centre for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons' Rights Protection, in compliance with Article 147 of the Criminal Code (slander) and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment. He is accused of insulting the honour and dignity of the occupied Khojaly city's former residents in his article named "Diary of Karabakh".

The Yasamal District Court made a decision on 6 April to fine Fatullayev and the newspapers under his editorship, AZN 20,000.
