Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend E.Huseinli / Ramiz Mehdiyev, the Head-of-Staff of the President's Executive Power, stated that Azerbaijan has become a country which made its presence felt in the world economy and politics. He was addressing the international conference 'Democracy in Societies in Transition', which began in Baku on 23 May.

All necessary democratic reforms have been carried out in Azerbaijan, which have promoted the consolidation of political and economic stability in the country.

According to Mehdiyev, after independence, the fate of Azerbaijan depended upon the development of democracy. "Former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev had a great ability in implementing democratic reforms in the country. Normal relationships were established between the President and Parliament. He was the creator of many international projects on Azerbaijan's integration into world processes. The democratic reforms held during that period have promoted Azerbaijan's progress," Mehdiyev stressed.

The international conference was initiated by the Academy of State Government at the Azerbaijan President and the National Academy of Sciences with the support of the Azerbaijan President's Executive Power.
