Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Ganimat Zahid, the Editor-in-chief of the Azadlyg newspaper, stated that the court trial based on the charges made by Officer Gafar Abbasov of the Baku State Traffic Police against the Azadlyg newspaper, presided over by Judge Fakhraddin Agamirzadeh, was postponed in the Yasamal District Court of Baku on 27 July. Zahid noted that the judge explained the delay as a result of prosecution collecting more documents.
"I spoke with Gafar Abbasov and proposed that he settle the issue without court trial. We are ready to issue his statement. However, Abbasov did not give any concrete response and said that he would speak with his lawyer," Zahid added. According to Zahid, Abbasov said that the articles published in the Azadlyg newspaper insulted his honour and dignity, and therefore he demands AZN 50,000 in moral damages.
