Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend Z.Safarov / The national boxing team of Azerbaijan took second place at the international tournament "Amber Gloves" in Kaliningrad, Russia.
In the final match, the Azerbaijani sportsmen lost in all eleven weight categories. Emil Maharramov ( 64 kg), a world championship winner, was the best in the team and he lost to Gennadiy Kovalenko with a difference of 3 points. As a result, Emil improved his chances in taking part at the Mundial in Chicago, because the Azerbaijani team now has two equally-skilled athletes in this weight category, Maherrmov and Farhad Aliyev. He was requested to fight against Kovolenko, but did not make an appearance, for unknown reasons.
The Azerbaijani team defeated the Ukraine and Kazakhstan teams.
